Synchronize AVI audio and video

Posted by Naveen Kumar on February 15, 2011

The most annoying thing you all must have faced when watching some of your favorite movies or videos, is audio is not synchronized with the video. Sometime its ahead of video or sometime its legging the video. So here are the solutions (yes solutions, I have two solutions. To make sure you enjoy your movie…Smile)

What all you need…..

1. AVI convertor (use anyone, use google to find one).

2. VirtualDub

Solution 1:

You are ready with the above things now its Action time…..

  1. Convert your video to avi format.
  2. Open VirtualDub.
  3. Now open your AVI video. VirtualDub may show you some tips on loading video leave that and close the message.
  4. Go to "Video" and select "Direct Stream Copy".
  5. Again, go to "Video" and now select "Frame Rate" (Ctrl+R).
  6. Select the radio button which has the following text: "Change so video and audio durations match". (it would not be a standard format just leave it as is)
  7. Go to "File", "Save as AVI" (F7). After saving the video, try to play it in your media player if it is in sync now.

Solution 2:

  1. Convert your Video to AVI format.
  2. Open VirtualDub.
  3. Now open your AVI video. VirtualDub may show you some tips on loading video leave that and close the message.
  4. Go to "Video" and select "Direct Stream Copy".
  5. Go to "audio" and select "Direct Stream Copy".
  6. Again go to “audio” and click “interleaving”
  7. There is a textbox labeled as “delay audio track by”. Enter the gap you found when playing your video like if the audio is 1 sec ahead the video then fill 1000(its in ms) and if audio is legging with 1 sec then fill -1000 (negative value).
  8. Go to "File", "Save as AVI" (F7). After saving the video, try to play it in your media player if it is in sync now.

If not then try a new little changed value, and you will end with a fully synchronized movie now.

lay back with your popcorn and enjoy the movie.
